Andrew Stevenson lectures in children’s publishing, sustainable graphic design techniques, wayfinding and information graphics and the 24 hour ‘Pressure Projects’ module. He moved initially into book design and publishing after graduating from Falmouth School of Art in 1993. He worked mainly with Dorling Kindersley Books in London and then, latterly, Swanston Publishing in Derby, before becoming a freelance designer. During his time working freelance, he was the senior designer on illustrated historical and cartographic-based titles aimed at both the UK and American markets published by Macmillan, Penguin-Viking and Facts on File amongst others.

Andrew gradually moved from print-based design to work in multimedia design and then web and online multimedia design. He moved to national advertising agency Riley Advertising in 1998, and helped to create early online presences for companies and brands including Bacardi and JD Wetherspoons as well as a number of high profile UK HE institutions. He later moved on to project manage the Coventry University team that created the University's first integrated multimedia corporate web presence.

Securing an MA with distinction from Coventry University in 2008, Andrew’s research interests include visually portraying human emotions via multimedia mapping, landscape phenomenology and utilising graphical representation to help improve engagement with recreational walking. He has also worked alongside both Worcester City Council’s and Malvern Hills District Council’s Landscape Architects to develop multimedia sensory mapping as a new method of assisting public consultation on new developments. The Worcester-based project formed part of the Councils winning bid for the national 2010 MJ Achievement Award for Sustainable Infrastructure Achievement of the Year while also helping to secure National Lottery monies for the redevelopment of The River Severn through the city centre.  More recently Andrew was shortlisted for the 2020 ¾ÞÈéÎÞÂë’s Deputy Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching as the “Student’s Choice”.

Andrew is now studying for a part time PhD, his research question is: “Redefining the guide: Investigating the role of Graphical Representation in Facilitating Increased Participation in Recreational Walking.”
